PHTRC is a training & research center of the University of the Philippines Los Banos that implements program for the improvement of postharvest systems of local fruits, vegetables, root crops, ornamental crops and herbs in fresh forms.
It was established in 1977 with grants from the ASEAN-Austalia Economic Cooperation Program, in response to the UN's call to reduce food losses. It served as the ASEAN regional postharvest center up to 1985.
